Enhanced ACT Score Calculator

Use the Enhanced ACT Score Calculator to estimate your ACT section scores and Composite score based on your performance.

The Enhanced ACT uses a 1โ€“36 scoring scale. For the current ACT format, the Composite is calculated from English, Math, and Reading. Science is optional and does not count toward the Composite, although it can contribute to a separate STEM score.

Enhanced ACT Score Calculator

Enter your performance in each section to estimate your scores.

English

Enter your number of correct scored questions.

Math

Enter your number of correct scored questions.

Reading

Enter your number of correct scored questions.

Science

Science is optional on the Enhanced ACT and does not affect the Composite.

Your Results

The calculator can display:

  • English scaled score
  • Math scaled score
  • Reading scaled score
  • Science scaled score, if applicable
  • Composite score
  • STEM score, if Science is included

How the Enhanced ACT Score Calculator Works

The calculator takes your section performance and converts it into estimated 1โ€“36 scaled scores.

It then calculates your Composite using:

Enhanced ACT Composite = (English + Math + Reading) รท 3

The result is rounded according to ACT’s scoring rules.

For example, if your section scores were:

  • English: 30
  • Math: 28
  • Reading: 29

Your estimated Composite would be:

(30 + 28 + 29) รท 3 = 29

So your Composite would be approximately 29.

ACT confirms that the Enhanced ACT Composite is based on English, Math, and Reading.

Enhanced ACT Scoring

The Enhanced ACT continues to use the familiar 1โ€“36 scale, but the test structure and Composite calculation changed beginning in 2025.

English

English is one of the three sections that contribute directly to your Composite.

Mathematics

Math is also included in the Composite calculation.

Reading

Reading is the third section used to calculate the Composite.

Science

Science is optional under the Enhanced ACT and does not contribute to the Composite.

If you take Science, your performance can be reported separately and can be used with Math to calculate the STEM score.

How Is the Enhanced ACT Composite Calculated?

For the current Enhanced ACT:

Composite = (English + Math + Reading) รท 3

For example:

SectionScore
English30
Math27
Reading29
Science28

The Composite calculation is:

(30 + 27 + 29) รท 3 = 28.67

The Composite is therefore approximately:

29

The Science score is not included in that calculation.

Enhanced ACT Raw Score vs. Scaled Score

These two numbers are different.

Raw Score

Your raw score represents how many scored questions you answered correctly.

For example:

32 correct answers

Scaled Score

Your scaled score is the resulting 1โ€“36 ACT section score after the raw performance is converted using the applicable scoring process.

The conversion isn’t simply a percentage multiplied by 36.

ACT uses scoring procedures that account for differences among test forms. Therefore, a raw-to-scaled conversion should be treated as an estimate unless you are using the exact official scoring information for the specific test form.

What Changed on the Enhanced ACT?

The Enhanced ACT introduced important changes to the test structure.

How to Use the Enhanced ACT Score Calculator

Step 1: Enter Your Section Results

Enter the number of questions you answered correctly or the applicable section performance supported by the calculator.

Step 2: Review Your Section Scores

The calculator estimates your:

  • English score
  • Math score
  • Reading score
  • Science score, if entered

Step 3: Check Your Composite

Your Composite is based on:

English + Math + Reading

Science does not affect the Enhanced ACT Composite.

Step 4: Review Additional Results

If supported by the calculator, review your:

  • STEM score
  • Percentile
  • Section breakdown
  • Estimated score range

How Many Questions Are Scored on the Enhanced ACT?

The Enhanced ACT contains more questions than the number of questions used for raw-score conversion because some questions can be unscored field-test items.

Current Enhanced ACT scoring resources identify maximum scored raw totals of:

  • English: 40
  • Math: 41
  • Reading: 27
  • Science: 34

The total number of questions presented in the sections is higher than those scored totals.

This distinction is important when using a raw-score calculator.

Always use the scoring basis specified by your practice test or official score information.

Does Science Count Toward the Enhanced ACT Composite?

No.

Science is optional and does not contribute to the Enhanced ACT Composite.

The Composite is calculated using:

English + Math + Reading

Science can still be useful because it contributes to the separate STEM score when applicable.

What Is the ACT STEM Score?

The STEM score combines:

Math + Science

and is reported separately from the Composite.

For example, if your Math score is 30 and your Science score is 28:

(30 + 28) รท 2 = 29

Your estimated STEM score would be 29.

The STEM score does not replace the Composite score.

Are Enhanced ACT Score Conversions Exact?

Not always.

A raw-to-scaled conversion calculator provides an estimate unless it is based on the exact scoring information for the test form being evaluated.

ACT uses test-form-specific scoring/equating processes, so the same raw performance can potentially result in slightly different scaled scores on different forms.

For that reason, avoid presenting an estimated calculator result as your official ACT score.

Enhanced ACT Superscore

ACT continues to support superscoring.

For the Enhanced ACT, the Composite portion of a superscore is based on the highest English, Math, and Reading scores across valid test attempts.

Science does not enter the Enhanced ACT Composite superscore, although Science can contribute to the STEM score.

A separate Enhanced ACT Superscore Calculator would therefore be a strong related tool for this website.

What Is a Good Enhanced ACT Score?

There isn’t one universal score that is “good” for every student.

The usefulness of an ACT score depends on factors such as:

  • Colleges you’re applying to
  • Intended major
  • Admission requirements
  • Scholarship requirements
  • The school’s typical admitted-student profile
  • Your overall application

Instead of judging your score in isolation, compare it with the requirements and score ranges of the colleges you’re considering.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Enhanced ACT scored?

The Enhanced ACT reports section scores on a 1โ€“36 scale. The Composite is calculated from English, Math, and Reading. Science is optional and does not count toward the Composite.

How is the Enhanced ACT Composite calculated?

Add your English, Math, and Reading scores and divide the total by three.

Composite = (English + Math + Reading) รท 3

Does Science count toward the ACT Composite?

No. Science is optional and does not contribute to the Enhanced ACT Composite.

What is the ACT score range?

ACT section scores and the Composite are reported on a 1โ€“36 scale.

Can I use this calculator for an old ACT?

A calculator specifically designed for the Enhanced ACT should not be used interchangeably with a legacy ACT raw-score calculator.

The legacy ACT had a different test structure and Composite methodology.

What is the difference between a raw and scaled ACT score?

A raw score represents correct answers, while a scaled score is the converted 1โ€“36 section score.

Is the Enhanced ACT score calculator exact?

It can provide a useful estimate, but raw-to-scaled conversions may vary by test form. Your official ACT score should be treated as authoritative.

Can Science improve my Composite?

No. Science does not contribute to the Enhanced ACT Composite.

It can contribute to the separate STEM score.

How do I calculate my ACT superscore?

For the Enhanced ACT, ACT calculates the Composite portion of a superscore using your highest English, Math, and Reading scores across test attempts.

Can I use this calculator for ACT practice tests?

Yes, provided the practice test uses the Enhanced ACT scoring structure and you enter the correct raw-score information for the calculator.
